The experience

Not just a journey, but a return to the essential. Let yourself be welcomed by the warmth of stone houses, savor the intense aromas of food in the bazaars, and cycle among the ancient ruins of the Silk Road. A route where not only goods traveled but also knowledge, philosophies, and religions...

Required level

There are journeys that change the perception of the world, like the tour through Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Imagine cycling through three legendary borders, along routes that for centuries have seen caravans of spices, silk, and goods, but also knowledge, religions, and philosophies heading towards Europe. A special adventure with a secret that makes this journey unique: it is accessible to everyone.
Central Asia is often associated with Himalayan peaks and superhuman efforts. This tour turns that paradigm upside down. With just 2210 meters of positive elevation spread over 900 kilometers, we face an incredibly smooth and flowing itinerary. It is the perfect proposal for those who want to experience the epic of travel without needing to be an elite athlete. Here, the challenge is not against the slope, but against the wonder that will catch you at every turn. In just 16 days, we will cross three states, an undertaking that usually requires months of planning, encapsulated in an intense, safe, and culturally overwhelming experience.

The Awakening of the Steppe: The Perfect Climate

The second half of April is the perfect time to embark on this journey. While the high mountains are still gripped by frost, the Fergana Valley and the Uzbek plains explode in a wonderful spring awakening. We will find a mild climate, ideal for cycling tourism: the air is fresh in the morning and pleasantly warm during the day, with blooming orchards perfuming the roads and making the landscape a pastel painting. It is the time when Central Asia shows its best before the scorching heat of summer makes the stages exhausting.

Safety and Hospitality: Feeling at Home, Away from Home

One of the most common fears when talking about "Stan Countries" is safety. The reality will leave you speechless. These are among the safest nations in the world for travelers: local hospitality is not just a courtesy, it is a sacred duty. We will encounter genuine smiles, outstretched hands, and invitations to drink tea (suutei tsai) every few kilometers. We will be pampered by a millennia-old culture that sees the traveler as an honored guest.

And then, the food. Central Asian cuisine is the true fuel for the cyclist. From colorful plov (rice with meat, carrots, and spices) to Non (the traditional bread baked in clay ovens), to tender shashlik skewers. Every meal is a rite, every stop a discovery of spicy and genuine flavors that will help us recover every calorie burned.

Cities that Look Like Mirages

From the spirituality of Osh, one of the oldest cities in the world, to the majesty of Samarkand, to the timeless elegance of Bukhara. We will cycle among turquoise domes that challenge the blue of the sky, minarets that seem embroidered in brick, and vibrant bazaars full of colors and life. It is not just a bike trip; it is a journey through time.

Get ready: this tour is the essence of freedom on two wheels. Few belongings, roads flowing smoothly beneath the wheels, and the constant feeling of being witnesses to immortal beauty.

FAQ

FAQ

What kind of physical preparation is necessary?

The tour is designed to be "accessible to everyone". Despite the total of 900 km, the elevation gain is very low (about 220 meters on average per day). A minimum level of training and the habit of being in the saddle for several consecutive days is necessary, but you don't need to be an elite athlete or climber. If you've never taken a bike trip, this experience is perfect for you!

What type of bicycle is most suitable?

I recommend a Gravel bike or a sturdy Touring bike (travel bike). The roads are mainly paved or with light and compact dirt. The important thing is that the bike is yours, that you have tried it before leaving, and that you are used to spending several hours in the saddle.

How does it work for luggage? Do I have to carry it myself?

Yes, it’s a true bikepacking adventure! You will need to be self-sufficient and carry everything you need. I will help you before the trip by giving you some useful tips. If this is your first trip, don’t worry, I will guide you step by step in every logistical aspect.

Is the trip safe?

Absolutely yes. Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are known to be among the safest and most hospitable countries in the world for tourists. Crime is very low and the local culture considers the traveler a sacred guest.

What documents are needed to cross the borders?

For Italian citizens, a passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity is required. Currently, for short tourist stays in these three countries, a prior visa is not required (visa exemption), but I will provide assistance for all border procedures during the trip.

What temperatures can we expect in April?

April is the month of awakening. Daytime temperatures in the Uzbek plains are ideal (between 18°C and 25°C). Mornings can be cool (around 5-10°C), so the secret is to dress in layers with lightweight technical clothing.

How will we manage meals and water?

The local cuisine is excellent and nutritious (perfect for cyclists). We will have breakfasts and dinners in hotels or typical restaurants. During the stages, we will stop at bazaars, small local markets, and street food. For water, we will always use bottled or filtered water for maximum safety.

In case of mechanical problems or excessive fatigue?

The group travels compactly but everyone has their own pace. If one day you really can’t pedal, you can load your bike into a taxi and wait for us at the next stop.

What is the quality of the accommodations like?

The tour offers a balanced mix: in the main cities (Samarkand, Bukhara, Khujand) we will stay in comfortable and charming hotels. In rural areas, we will set up tents or my recommendation is to seek hospitality with local families: it’s the best way to experience true Central Asian hospitality, dine together, and learn about their customs.

Do I need to change money before leaving?

It is not necessary. It is easier to exchange Euros or Dollars directly on site or withdraw local currency (Som, Somoni) at ATM machines in the main cities. Many shops in the bazaars still only accept cash.
