The Gobi in September: The Golden Season
Choosing the first two weeks of September is a strategic move that only those who truly know Mongolia can advise you. In summer, the Gobi is an oven, but in September the air cools down, becoming clear and perfect for bike touring. But the real ace up our sleeve is the wind: during this period, the currents predominantly blow from the North/Northwest. This means we will have the wind mostly at our backs for much of the crossing south, an invisible push that will transform long distances into a smooth dance on the dirt.
Solitude, Camels, and Freedom
We will pedal on roads where the concept of "traffic" does not exist. Occasionally, we will encounter herds of Bactrian camels watching us pass, and we will see the silhouettes of birds of prey gliding in the deep blue of the Mongolian sky. It is a journey of mystical solitude and deep sharing: we will sleep in tents under the most starry sky of your life or in Gers (yurts), the iconic tents of the nomads. We will enter their homes, meet the steppe hunters, and discover a hospitality made of glances, hot tea, and a sacred respect for the traveler.
A Return as True Travelers
After traversing the desert with our legs, the adventure will conclude with an epic experience: the Trans-Mongolian train from Zamiin-Uud to Ulaanbaatar. It is not just a transfer; it is a rite of passage. We will load the bikes onto a freight train and cross at night, rocked by the rhythm of the tracks, through that desert we have just conquered pedal by pedal. An experience for true travelers, a moment of decompression before returning to the chaos of civilization.
If you seek silence, if you want to feel the thrill of being alone in front of primordial nature, and if you want to live the true essence of freedom, Mongolia is waiting for you.
Take off towards the land of blue skies. The adventure begins.
Arrival in the capital, bike assembly, and first steps through the contrasts of a city suspended between modernity and nomadic tradition.
We begin the descent southward. The first stages gradually take us from the grassy steppe to the edges of the desert. Tented camps under the stars, no cities.
The landscape becomes drier and more fascinating. It is here that the Gobi begins to show its true soul. Sightings of camels and endless skies. Overnight in a traditional Ger.
The last big push towards the border with China. A ride in absolute silence, interrupted only by the whistling of the tailwind. Arrival at the border outpost.
A day of relaxation in Zamiin-Uud before boarding the night train. A journey within a journey, crossing the Gobi on the tracks.
Morning arrival in Ulaanbaatar. A day dedicated to last-minute shopping and visiting the Buddhist monasteries. Final group dinner.
